WW2 – Memories Shared

Another great turn out for a “CAKE and CHAT” session- organized by the Hartington History group- held on November 1st this time in the Hartington British Legion instead of the Village Hall

Over 30 people attended enjoying tea, cake and excellent company and reminiscences. The three village of Biggin, Earl Sterndale and Hartington were represented, bringing photos and memorabilia. A power point presentation helped focus minds on a range of topics including Evacuees; a Spitfire Crash near the cheese factory, Home guard and Royal Observer Corps as well as memories of school and home life and the POW at Biggin and the bombing of Earl Sterndale Church. Members of the History group took notes of the many interesting stories and as before we ran out of time. Another session will be held to pick up where we left off- this will be in the Village Hall on December 13th for “Mince Pies and Chat”- 4.30 start

The group have collated all the material we have collected both on WW1 and WW2—these will be stored in the British Legion ( by Kind permission of Harold and Jenny Ball) and be available to be borrowed. If you would like to take any of the resources out on loan please visit the British Legion during opening hours and sign out the material you require
