Holidaying

Hi, we have had a lovely four days up in Hartington this last week. We have stayed in and around the area before, but never actually stayed in Hartington itself. A lovely peaceful place to stay, let us hope it stays that way, not too many changes I hope. The walking is fantastic and the people friendly and helpful.
Can't wait to visit the little cottage and surrounding areas again.

Village hall AGM

The Village Hall AGM will take place in the Village Hall on 21st October at 20:00, it is hoped that the village people will enthusiastically attend as they have for other recent meetings. The present committee of 5 will require many more members if the hall is to be re-furbished and repaired. The cellar repairs are nearing completion, but still need a few thousang pounds more to complete the project, then there's a heating system and insulation, all cost money which needs to be raised.

the idea of a christmas market sounds good, are you aware of the regular ones at Ipstones - usually last friday nite in Novenber, fun evenings but can be very cold or wet, it would be best not to clash with their night, which is 26th November 2010 6 til 8 ish

Cheese factory re-development

Are the plans for this major change to the village available to see on the Peak Park planning website or do you just have to turn up on those 2 dates and look at the exhibition to see what is proposed?

Treasure hunt

Is there any chance of an answer sheet for the treasure hunt? It was really hard but I would like to know where we went wrong and if any of the few answers we did write down were correct!!

cheese factory re-development

I hear there is to be a public display of the proposed (72) houses planned for the cheese factory site by the developers at the village hall on 29th and 30th september , between 16:00 - and - 19:00. Doubtless this will be advertised on a major scale as it is such an important event for the village.

O2

Like everyone else I have been hugely frustrated with the lack of action from 02 in resolving the micro transmitter issue located in the old cheese factory. My blood boiled however when I received yet another customer services call to say they are still looking into the problem despite my own and other residents telling 02 precisely what, when and why the failure had occurred some 5 months ago.
I decided to email the Chief Executive and tell him what it is like to be a 02 customer in Hartington.
To my surprise I received a call from their head office and they have looked into the matter and have apologised to the community for the lack of communication and the issue falling to some extent between the cracks and partly due to being unable to agree terms with the new owner of the cheese factory. 02 have committed to have a team of engineers visit the village and find an alternative location for the transmitter by Wednesday 21st July.
02 have committed to keeping the village informed from here on and I will, as and when I hear anything post it on this site.

Christmas market

Hi, I've been considering the idea of arranging a christmas market in the village, one evening in late november probably. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? would anyone like to help with the organisation? I haven't definately decided to go ahead with it yet but would appreciate thoughts on the idea, good or bad!!

Mobile phone coverage in Hartington

I will be staying in the village for a week at the end of May. Can anyone tell me about mobile phone coverage in the village, please? Last year my O2 phone worked but I have heard the transmitter is not currently working.
Also, is the public telephone box on the corner still working?
Many thanks.

Cheese factory redevelopment

As requested by villagers at the Annual Parish Meeting on Tuesday 11th May I contacted Sarah Foster at the Peak Park to ask for her comments on the above development which are as follows:
The Peak District National Park Authority will not grant planning permission for open market housing within the National Park unless it provides significant benefit to the local community in the form of village halls, playing fields, playgrounds, land etc. as required and requested by the inhabitants of that community.
Failing this the site would remain for industrial usage only.
One alternative to this would be for a developer to claim that the site would become an eyesore and have a negative impact on the village environment and so a housing development would be an improvement.
Both the PDNP and Cathelco are appointing their own surveyors to investigate the financial viability of any schemes proposed.
The local needs housing survey actually received responses from 39 people within the parish expressing a need for low cost homes. The formula applied in assessing these surveys seems to be that 33% becomes the actual figure due to people finding jobs, homes etc. elsewhere hence the figure of 13 as discussed at the meeting.
As stated last night the architect is meeting with the PDNP this Friday 14th May with a view to finalising plans to be shown at an exhibition in the village. I will inform everyone when dates are available.
If anyone wishes to contact me my home no.is 01298 85067, mobile 07773354361 or e-mail davidchapman893@btinternet.com.(please use this rather than DDDC one as I can pick e-mails up at work)

old cheese factory

did any one know there was a meeting between the parish council and the purchasers of the factory site on the 23rd Feb in the bakehouse, to discuss it's developement. NO!! no advertising of the fact.

An action committee should be set up and a proper public meeting arranged to discuss with the various agencies of what is happening there so all may have a say and guide the developers as to what may be considered viable..
